Avengers Half-Marathon

Sunday, November 16, 2014
Its dark, early and cold but Brenda and I are lined up in our coral ready to run the Avengers Half-Marathon!

The blistery winds were an unwelcome surprise to the race. Wind was reported as high as 20 mph along the course. The water stops were chaotic as wind was blowing cups off the table and trash boxes blowing away.

We did finish our second half marathon together, earning the Disney coast to coast medal with a time of 3:27:28. The winds became such a threat, the after party was cancelled and we resigned to sitting in Downtown Disney after the race.

All cleaned up and ready for food we made our reservation time for Goofy's Kitchen, a buffet of plentiful food to recharge us with what our bodies needed for the day. Because after brunch we were spending the day in Disneyland.

The day at the park started out well but as the day progressed and the more steps we took the more our legs screamed out for relief. We made an early day of it but not before seeing Club 33 and the Magical Suite.

California Adventure

Saturday, November 15, 2014
Park day, we grab a coffee and some breafast for walking through downtown disney and were off.
Spent the morning in cars land, it was really done nice, made me feel like I was in a small town along route 66 (radiator springs).

We went on the California screamin rollercoaster, and I'm tucking things away getting ready for ride. When done we exit ride and realize I left my newly purchased marathon hat in the seat. Bam! Ride takes off. I tell the ride attendant and he tells me the car will show up on the other side of loading and will have them check. So we wait, as more cars take off, our hopes fade then miraculously the attendant returns holding a hat, my hat! Well done Disney, well done.

Back to cars land for lunch because I really like the land and how Disney made you feel youre in the town, and there weren't any good places to dine in Hollywood land or Bugs land.

Its an amusement park so we rode more rides and were amused, but generally noticed how relaxing it was without our kids. We ended our evening at Carthay Circle restaurant with a nice dinner then we went back to the room to rest up for the half marathon in the morning

Avengers Weekend

Friday, November 14, 2014
Travel day for our Avengers half marathon weekend at Disneyland in California.  The temperature at departure time in Houston is 38 degrees and in Los Angeles it is 62 degrees. Forecast for the weekend is mild temps and sunshine, great race weather!

Expo And Packet Pickup
Arrived at Disneyland Hotel, I had never been here, rooms are much nicer than Pop Century. We drop our belongings and go in search of some lunch at Tangaroa Terrace, quick service food. After lunch its time to pick up our race packets and checkout the expo. We did have to get the matter of Brenda's coast to coast status cleared before departing to the expo. At the expo Brenda got two shirts and I got an avenger hat. With that all done it was time to drop our packets at the hotel and go to the park.

Disneyland
A five minute walk from our hotel we caught the monorail into Tomorrowland inside Disneyland. We did some research of Mickeys Toontown for Brenda then off to ride the Matterhorn (one of her favorites).

Key West

Saturday, October 4, 2014
Today was Key West for the passengers. Our plans was suppose to rent a car and drive the seven-mile bridge and head towards the mainland. We abandoned this plan as it seemed exhausting, instead we had a relaxing day on the ship while most of the passengers were on shore at Key West. This turned out to be a very relaxing time for all of us.

And of course we had time alone on the ship while the kids enjoyed the Oceaneer Club.

Dinner was Pirate night at the Parrot Cay dining room

The remaining evening plans was suppose to be pirate party on the deck and fireworks but instead everyone opted for a night watching TV in the cabin. An uneventful day but a restful one, after all the going we've been doing since arriving in Florida.

Day at Sea

Friday, October 3, 2014
So how does one spend a day at sea on the Disney Cruise? Send the kids to the Oceaneer Club (kids club) while the parents enjoy some peace and quiet. And this is what we found ourselves doing:

We found the "Voyage Data Recorder" and decided to hang out by it, since it is ALWAYS the first thing recovered in an accident. I felt safer! Seriously though we found ourselves relaxing pool side basking in the sun, before we had to interrupt our fun and take Amber for her photo sitting with....

Elsa and Anna (of course)! Then back to the kids club so mom and dad could get on with their alone time. But we couldn't enjoy the time very long before Mason was ready to leave the kids club. So we got them both out and head to the slide at the pool and some lunch poolside.

Never enough time, we had to get dressed for costume night at dinner in the Animator's Palette dining room. The family (that would be us) dressed up and Winnie the Pooh, Eeyore, Tigger and Piglet.

After dinner we settled in for story time around the Pumpkin tree in the atrium of the ship. Well done Disney! Then for our final event of the night, the Golden Mickey's, a dance musical of sorts with snippets of Disney movies. Very well done and entertaining.

After the Golden Mickey's we were done for the night, well almost, we did a little shopping in the gift shop onboard.
