Today we depart for a much needed overnight escape from the kids; destination Austin. We start the three hour journey after dropping kids off at school. Our schedule is tight, for we must make it to Austin if we are going to have any chance of achieving our first objective; getting food at Franklin Barbeque.
We arrived at noon, not the ideal time but we are only 16 people behind the "last man standing". The last man standing is the last person that is gauranteed to get food. We are prepared to take our chances!
Three hours of standing in line in hopes of getting the tastiest brisket in the ciuntry we here the call come from the carver, "brisket is all gone". We are only four people from ordering. Previously we heard the call that ribs were gone, then pulled pork fell next, the turkey was the next to sell out. Our hopes as we were 30 minutes from ordering was that only six briskets remained.
Now it came down to this, all meats are gone except chopped beef and sausage, and only four people to go. Finally, the last chopped beef goes right before us. No! Oh so close, but it was not meant to be today for us. We settle for what's left, sausage, and all the fixins (potato salad, cokeslaw, and beans). Disappoint overcomes as we just missed our chance for some tasty meat, but no time for it to settle in, we must get checked into our hotel and rush to our next adventure.
Our base of operations for our stay would be the Lone Star Court hotel. A retro looking hotel, the Lone Star Court offers a cozy accomodation with a circa 1950 small texas town feel. The place has a pool, two outdoor fire rings, and a food truck.
We had just enough time to unpack our gear and shuffle off to ifly Austin, an indoor skydiving experience. After signing in and taking the orientation class, we were ready to suit up and go flying. Proper position and form were explained in the orientatuon but execution proved more difficult. We are led into a holding area next to the wind tunnel until our time to fly. Once you step into the wind tunnel you're hit with an 80 mph wind that wants to take you soaring.
Brenda was able to soar higher in the wind tunnel than I could, which is ironic since she was fearing the height. The experience was new and fun, but now it was time to get serious about food. We selected Matts El Ranchero mexican restaurant as our destination for dinner. A old tried and true restaurant with local favorites, it did not disappoint our appetites in flavor or quantity.
After our feast we huddled around the fire pit at the Lone Star Court for a feq minutes before retiring for the night.

The drive home would round out the overnight get away, but to finish out the trip we stop by Krispy Kreme to load up on donuts before ending our trip and returning home.
